Dat is het resultaat van tien jaar onderzoek, maakte de universiteit maandag bekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Het lukte de onderzoekers om aardappels genetisch te modificeren, waardoor ze langdurig resistent werden tegen de gevreesde aardappelziekte Phytophthora infestans. Dat deden ze met een nieuwe moleculaire techniek die het mogelijk maakt om genen uit wilde aardappels in te brengen in de cultuuraardappel. ,,Zulke aardappels zouden het wereldwijde gebruik van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen substantieel kunnen verminderen &eacute;n een belangrijke bijdrage kunnen leveren aan de productie van extra voedsel&#8221;, aldus de onderzoekers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">De ziekte is over de hele wereld een probleem in de aardappelteelt. Ge&iuml;nfecteerde planten leggen binnen vijf tot zeven dagen het loodje.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Door misoogsten ontstaat jaarlijks alleen al in Nederland voor miljoenen euro&#8217;s schade.
